Responsibilities: Under direction with some latitude for the exercise of independent action and judgment, hears and adjudicates contract interpretation issues and disciplinary matters initiated through the grievance process. Writes case decisions and assists in the supervision of grievance scheduling; investigates complaints and interviews employees; conducts preliminary investigations and reports to management factual data to form the basis for Transit's position at arbitration. Manages caseload of medical appeals and conducts hearings at various depots and remote locations; presents expedited arbitration cases and/or adjudicates expedited hearings concerning shortages, medical disputes and differential pay cases; calendars cases and liaises with client departments.

Exper. & Educ.: 1. Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in public or personnel administration, industrial management, labor relations or business administration and a minimum of three years of relevant experience; or 3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.

Desired Skills: Knowledge of New York City Transit labor contracts, rules, regulations and policy/instructions. Excellent oral communication, writing and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
